Lantan Desa Wisata

In December 2017, at Bale Lantan, we embarked on our first collaborative effort with the Japanese NGO Yui-Tool Kaihatsu Labo to launch an ecotourism project in Lantan Village. During this milestone event, we hosted 10 guests from Japan, who stayed with local for 3 days and 2 nights. While in the village, they not only enjoyed Lantan's natural beauty but also had the invaluable opportunity to immerse themselves in the daily lives of the local community, learning about traditional cooking, farming, and crafting.

Through the ESD Study Tour, I rediscovered the essence of humanity-qualities like individuality, emotion, and empathy that we often lose in our fast-paced modern lives. My time in Lantan Village, where the warmth and care of the villagers allowed me to be my authentic self, was a profound reminder of what it truly means to live as a human. This experience has left a lasting impact on me, inspiring a desire to live more fully and help others around me do the same.

My experience with Yui Tool profoundly reshaped my perspective on ecotourism and community. In Lantan Village, my first homestay abroad, I discovered a simple yet rich way of life that fostered genuine connections. The warmth and acceptance among villagers reminded me of the importance of community, a contrast to my experiences in Japan. I returned with a deeper empathy and a renewed sense of humanity, realizing that true development must embrace diverse perspectives and prioritize meaningful relationships.

True local experience that I 100% recommend 🩷 I got to cook traditional food in ricefields and learn more about Lantan’s practices and sustainable values regarding both women empowerment and sustainable development! + visit of a gorgeous waterfall. If you want to know more about locals in Lombok it’s the place to go, people are the nicest! 💯 & it’s very easy to book on Whatsapp:)

Highly recommended for travelers interested in eco-tourism, zero-waste activities, and soft trekking. There's an eco-crafting activity where you can make bags from recycled plastic waste, guided directly by the Pokdarwis (Tourism Awareness Group) and the Women Farmers Group (KWT) of Lantan Village. You’ll also visit Babak Pelangi Waterfall (with an alternative option for those unable to do soft trekking, a pickup truck is available). The service from Pokdarwis is excellent! We were warmly welcomed and felt very comfortable. We had so much fun! Thanks to all the Pokdarwis and everyone involved. ❤️

Japan (Yui-Tool Director)

In 2017, Yui-Tool, a Japanese organization, made its first attempt to establish a village-based tourism project in Lantan. The goal was to encourage the local community to become more mindful of their village’s cleanliness in anticipation of receiving outside visitors. Fortunately, there were several enthusiastic young people in Lantan who were eager to collaborate with Yui-Tool. We were able to show them that visitors are often drawn to the simple, everyday activities of the village. This inspired them to create various activities for tourists. The young people also learned from the visitors that maintaining a clean environment is crucial. Additionally, they realized that there was no need to prepare special meals or build hotels for guests. Yui-Tool's village-based tourism project aligns with the principles of sustainable tourism, as it helps preserve the local culture and religion while supporting the village’s economy.
